Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Highway 3, Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

The Environment Canada website said a frontal system moving across the British Columbia Interior will give snow to most southern highway passes for the Thanksgiving long weekend.

“Precipitation from the system will start as rain (Saturday) afternoon, and then as snow levels drop, it will change to snow on (Saturday) night or Sunday morning,” Environment Canada said.

“The snow is expected to continue through Sunday evening.”

Environment Canada said total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 cm can be expected with the highest amounts over higher elevations.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

Road conditions are available at www.drivebc.ca.
