Enrolment in Kootenay Lake SD8 drops

Enrolment for the entire school district has fallen by nearly 48 full-time equivalent students for the current school year versus last year according to a recent report delivered to the Kootenay Lake school board.

The sharpest drop out of the entire roster of SD8 facilities is Mount Sentinel Secondary School with a 21.6 FTE enrolment drop compared to last school year.

Nelson’s L.V. Rogers Secondary School was close behind with a 21.25 FTE student drop. On the other end of the spectrum, Salmo Secondary School rose by 21.12 FTE students.

Nelson’s Hume School gained seven students to 194, Rosemont Elementary School rose by four students to 118, while Salmo Elementary School jumped by 17 students to 191.

Trafalgar School also saw greater numbers enter the doors with 14 more students swelling the ranks to 397. Wildflower School also had 12 new students for a total of 140.

At the junction, W.E. Graham School was up by 9.875 FTE students to 63.875, but South Nelson School fell by 20 students to 161.

Overall, the district sits at 4,654.75 FTE students.

However, compared to an SD8 staff projection for the current school year, enrolment is up by 14.75 FTE students. SD8 staff calculated the entire district enrolment would be 4,640.
