Drug busts remove fentanyl from Nelson streets

Nelson Police officers were able to remove a considerable amount of fentanyl from the streets following a series of arrests this past week in the Heritage City.
In a media release Nelson Police said officers made a total of three arrests following two separate incidents Monday and Thursday.
Search warrant leads to seizure significant amount of street fentanyl
On Monday, June 29, Nelson Police Department executed a search warrant on a residence in the 800 block of Third Street in Fairview, obtaining an arrest and entry warrant for the premises following a lengthy investigation into reports of drug trafficking activity at the home.
“A male and female, who are known to police, were arrested inside the home and a significant quantity of suspected street fentanyl was seized,” Nelson Police media release said.
“In total, police seized approximately 88 grams of suspected street fentanyl worth from $9000 to $11,000 CAD.”
“A lethal dose of fentanyl can range from .05 to 2 mg in pure form,” Nelson Police added.
Police said a significant amount of cash was also located as were weapons including a conducted energy weapon and bear spray.
NPD are forwarding charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking against the male and female arrested in the home as well as proceeds of crime and weapons charges to Crown Counsel.
Nelson Police said both parties have been released on conditions and a future court date.
Keen eye of citizen nets drug bust
Nelson Police said the sharp eye and initiative of a concerned Nelson citizen led police to the arrest of a male in the 500 Block of Hume Lane.
Police said the witness noticed the man actively selling drugs to an unknown female on Thursday, July 2.
“The male is known to police and was found to be in possession of approximately 4 grams of suspected Fentanyl packaged trafficking purposes,” Nelson Police said.
“The male was also found to be in possession of a quantity of cash and a large knife.”
Police said the male was also wanted for a recent Break and Enter to a local Nelson business. NPD are forwarding charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Commercial Break and Enter against the male.
Police said the male was released on conditions and a future court date.
