Ferry service down in Harrop and a landslide north of Balfour on Saturday are just two of the local items now contained in the revamped and more user friendly DriveBC website.

Drive BC is the Province of British Columbia’s most popular website, and the highlight of the new site is an enhanced map view of the province’s highway network.

Users can roll over icons on the map to get details of highway events, road conditions and webcam information. As with the previous version of DriveBC, highway events are also available in list form.

The new website makes it easier to access the ministry’s 175 webcams placed on highways around the province, so you can check conditions in real-time and know before you go.

Other features of the new DriveBC site include links to avalanche updates and border crossing delays. The legacy site will continue to run in parallel with the new site for several months.

The DriveBC website is at www.drivebc.ca. For current conditions, you can follow DriveBC on Twitter at http://twitter.com/drivebc

Note:

Ferry service at the Harrop Ferry will be interrupted for maintenance at Kootenay River starting Friday, March 4 at 12 a.m. through to Sunday, March 27, 12 p.m. A pontoon barge will be in service during this period.

Landslide

Highway 31 just north of Balfour was hit with a mudslide on Saturday, Jan. 29. Maintenance contractor Yellowhead Road and Bridge-Kootenay Division were on site and had the area cleared within two hours. Around 70m3 of debris fell into the ditch and on to the highway.
