Deer shot with arrow in residential area

On November 16, 2022, Grand Forks RCMP along with the BC Conservation Services began investigating an early morning incident in the 7600 block of 17th St in Grand Forks where a deer was shot with an arrow. An arrow was recovered from scene and officers from both agencies continue to investigate this disturbing incident.

Smoking frying pan sends one to hospital

Just before 3 a.m. on November 19, 2022, officers from the Grand Forks RCMP assisted local Fire Department gain access to a unit that was filling with smoke at the 6900 block of 19th St.

Once inside, fire personnel and police officers found a male asleep on the couch while an unattended frying pan was smoking on the nearby stove. The male was awoken and eventually taken to Boundary Hospital for smoke inhalation, but is expected to make a full recovery.

“The quick response from both police and fire may likely have prevented not only a fire within the unit, but from spreading to other units,” stated Grand Forks Detachment Commander, Sergeant Darryl Peppler.”

Officers continue to remove impaired drivers from the road

On November 19, 2022 at around 5 p.m., an officer while out on patrol stopped a motor vehicle for suspected inactive insurance near 5th St on Central Ave.

Upon speaking with the driver, the officer then entered into an impaired driving investigation.

The driver provided samples of his breath roadside which resulted with a Warning, meaning that the driver had anywhere between 60 mgs and 100 mgs of alcohol in his blood. The legal limit is 80 mgs.

As a result, the driver, a 62-year-old man from Grand Forks, was given a 3-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP), had his vehicle impounded for 7 days, and given violation tickets for no insurance and having open liquor in a motor vehicle.

“As the holiday season approaches, Grand Forks RCMP will be having extra officers out at night conducting road blocks and checking vehicles to help ensure a safe season for all,” said Sgt Peppler.
