It’s that time of the year again – the Dance Umbrella’s much awaited annual Spring Showcase.

The showcase opens on Thursday 7 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre, and runs through Saturday with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday for families.

More than 160 dancers at the Dance Umbrella have been hard at work mastering their choreography, which includes modern, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, and Bollywood dance styles.

“I get to work with the best kids in the world,” said Sabian Clover, long-time Dance Umbrella Director. “Every year is spectacular.”

“I’ve had some dancers since they were four years old, and they’re now graduating high school,” said Clover.

“Some dancers come in five days a week. Dance really teaches discipline and builds a strong work ethic. It’s also a healthy way for young men and women to relate.”

A refreshing aspect of the Dance Umbrella is the dedicated core of male dancers.

“Dance is the perfect mix of art and sport,” said Tucker, 17.

“Also love and hate,” chimed in Galen Boulanger, also 17.

“It’s the only place in life where I can hang with girls in not a hormonally crazy way,” added Donovan, 18.

“Dance is so intimate yet it’s completely platonic. You learn mutual respect. Also, you build some really great friendships.”

To witness the hard work and talent of the Dance Umbrella family, don’t miss the showcase performance this coming weekend!

Tickets are now available for $10 at the Capitol Theatre Box Office Tuesday to Friday from 12:00-4:30 p.m., or over the phone.
