Cyclist struck by car Tuesday in Nelson

A 26-year-old cyclist was taken to Kelowna Regional Hospital with severe injuries after colliding with a car Tuesday morning a few blocks from the downtown core in Nelson.

Nelson Police said in a media release dispatch received multiple 9-1-1 calls of a cyclist being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Stanley and Silica Street Tuesday (July 25th) at 8:34 a.m.

When NPD officers arrived, police located the man on the ground a couple of feet from a motor vehicle.

Nelson Police provided initial medical treatment until being quickly relieved by attending Nelson Fire Rescue and BC Ambulance crews. The cyclist was taken by BC Ambulance to Kootenay Lake Hospital before being medevac to hospital in Kelowna as a result of the severity of his head and neck injuries.

A Nelson RCMP Collision Analyst attended to conduct a forensic analysis of the scene.

Multiple contributing factors are being considered as to the cause of the collision.
