J. Lloyd Crowe Hawks of Trail made it a clean sweep Wednesday at the L.V. Rogers Hangar.

The Hawks rallied back from a 14-point halftime deficit to edge LVR Bombers 65-61 in West Kootenay High School Boys’ Basketball action at the LVR Hangar.

Earlier, the Crowe Hawks defeated the Bombers 54-43 in West Kootenay Junior Boys play.

Fresh from defeating Crowe Saturday in the Hawks Tournament, LVR appeared to have their opponent’s number, building a 32-18 advantage at halftime.

However, the Hawks pressing three-quarter-court defence, combined with a zone in the paint, frustrated the Bomber players to create numerous turnovers to allow Crowe back into the game.

With the game tied 56-56, LVR had a chance to close out the contest with the last shot but failed to get off a good attempt before time ran out.

In the overtime period, Crowe outscored LVR 9-5 to secure the victory.

Sam Knight led the Hawks with 12 points. Johnny Michalchuk scored 16 points to lead the Bombers while Matti Erickson, named MVP for LVR during the weekend tourney, added 14.

In the preliminary tilt, LVR came out flying, pressuring the Hawks into turnover after turnover to open a 15-4 lead after one quarter.

But Crowe turned the tables in the second period with a full-court press that turned turnovers into hoops, going on a 20-4 run to lead 24-19 at halftime. LVR could never get closer than points as the Hawks cruised to the 11-point win.

Leading the Hawks was Connor Nagle with 21 points while Matt Clark added nine.

For LVR, Quinn Kilpatrick was the top scorer with 11 points while Calvin Wheeler added eight while Mika Whitefield had six.
