Crowds flock to Nelson Business Association Santa Claus Parade

Santa did come to town.

Santa, and Mrs. Claus, paid their annual visit to the Heritage City Saturday as part of the second annual Nelson Business Association Santa Parade.

Pulled on a temporary sleigh by Cory and Clint of Western Auto, Santa and Mrs. Claus cruised down Baker Street with members of the Nelson Neptune Swim Club, NelsonOsprey Squadron cadets of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and Wolfgang and Lila, winners of the Kootenay Co-op Radio/The Nelson Daily colouring contest.

The parade, viewed by hundreds of spectators, concluded at Hall Street Plaza where Santa and Mrs. Claus met with children before heading back to the North Pole to fulfill a few requests before heading out on Christmas Eve to deliver presents.

Some of the other groups in the parade, led the the Kootenay Kiltie Pipe Band, included the Nelson Rhythm Ropers, Dance Umbrella as well as members of the Nelson Police Department, Nelson Fire Rescue and North Shore Fire Department.

Nelson Mayor Deb Kozak was joined by Councillor Robin Cherbo and Nelson-Creston MLA Michelle Mungall on Nelson Fire Rescue Ladder Truck.

Both Kozak and Mungall delivered a Christmas message to the crowd at Hall Street Plaza.

John McCuaig of The Nelson Daily was MC of the ceremony at Hall Street Plaza.

The event is organized by Nelson Business Association (NBA), in conjunction with The Nelson Daily, Kootenay Co-op Radio, numerous downtown businesses, volunteers, staff at City of Nelson Public Works Department, Nelson Fire Department and Nelson Police Department.
