Cougar spotted by resident in Taghum Thursday

A local resident reported to The Nelson Daily that there has been a cougar sighting in the Taghum region west of Nelson Thursday.
The sighting was said to have happened during the morning hours.
The resident tells The Nelson Daily a cougar was spotted siting on Highway 3A this morning in Taghum.
The cougar is said to have been in possession of road kill.
In July 2016, a resident of Taghum witnessed seeing a cougar heading into the forest during a morning walk near the family home.
Taghum is located approximately 10 kilometers west of Nelson on Highway 3A.
Some tips for meeting up with a cougar are:
- Never approach a cougar. Although cougars will normally avoid a confrontation, all cougars are unpredictable. Cougars feeding on a kill may be dangerous.
- Always give a cougar an avenue of escape.
- Stay calm. Talk to the cougar in a confident voice.
- Pick all children up off the ground immediately. Children frighten easily and their rapid movements may provoke an attack.
- Do not run. Try to back away from the cougar slowly. Sudden movement or flight may trigger an instinctive attack.
- Do not turn your back on the cougar. Face the cougar and remain upright.
- Do all you can to enlarge your image. Don’t crouch down or try to hide. Pick up sticks or branches and wave them about.
