Concern over watersheds attracts large crowd to North Shore Rally

A little rain could not dampen the spirits of a crowd that gathered outside the Kootenay Lake Forestry Centre on the North Shore to raise awareness about the impacts of industrial logging of their watersheds.
The Water of Life rally, organized by the West Kootenay Watershed Solidarity was an opportunity to have all our community's voices heard and represented and also to show our government officials that this is an issue that absolutely needs to be addressed a spokesperson said. Petitions were available for people to sign questioning the direction of government officials.
Some of the citizens attending included Sinixt elder Marilyn James, water activist Elosie Charet,as well as many concerned community members who looking to ensure the integrity of their water takes precedence over industrial volume-based logging interests, particularly at the height of global climate crisis.
The crowd signed petitions as well as rallied along Highway 3A carrying signs for passing motorists.
Concerns are that many local watersheds in the regional are being threatened with logging.
