Community rallies to support West Kootenay family

Donations for a GoFundMe page continue to pour in for a West Kootenay man killed in a snowmobile accident last week near Kaslo.

Kaslo RCMP said that local Search and Rescue were called to an avalanche accident on the afternoon of Thursday, March 4 in the Antoine Basin area.

RCMP said when Search and Rescue arrived, snowmobilers were able to dig the West Kootenay man out of the out of the snow from the avalanche, but he did not survive. 

RCMP said the group had backcountry experience.

The BC Coroners Service has taken over the investigation.

The Crescent Valley Fire Department posted on its Facebook page the member, Joe Leblanc, leaves behind a wife and three children and was a member of its hall for the past seven years.

Prior to joining Crescent Valley Fire Department, Leblanc was a member of the fire hall in Riondel.
