L.V. Rogers is hosting is seventh annual “Night of Local Talent” Saturday at the Nelson United Church.

The annual event, set to begin at 7:30 p.m., is a fundraiser for the school’s long-standing ‘Celebrate Africa’ program in support of the village of Yamandu in Sierra Leone.

The evening  headliners for this year’s evening are the Corazon Vocal Ensemble and the L.V. Rogers Jazz Band.

Other performers will include Logan Carlstrom, Brynn Forsey, Alex Schlosser, Brooke Gonzalez-Woods, Geordi Campos, Sienna Drake, Angello Sammartino, Charlie Pears-Smith, and Tyler Isaacs-Dejong.

To date, the Celebrate Africa group, through the Free the Children organization, has raised over $40,000 dollars to finance initiatives including the digging of a well, the building of a school, hiring of a teacher, and providing school supplies to the tiny isolated village.

This year the group sets its sights on raising proceeds to help fund a micro-financing system to help young boys start a business and (hopefully) avoid ending up as child soldiers; other monies raised will go to paying three more teacher salaries for the school.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a bake sale and raffle to get things started. Tickets are $12 adults and $10 for students and are available from Eddy’s Music.

For more details contact the school at 352.5538 or visit our website at lvr.sd8.bc.ca.

So please consider spending your Saturday evening with some good music, good eats, and all for a good cause!
