Coaching staff returns as Leafs salute players at awards banquet

The Nelson Leafs concluded the 2015-16 campaign on a celebratory note Wednesday night at the Hume Hotel with the annual team banquet and awards ceremony.

First order of business was president John Dooley announcing that the entire coaching staff of Mario DiBella, Sean Dooley and Isaac Macleod would be back for the 2016-17 season.

Team captain Rayce Miller, Joe Davie, Kolten Nelson and Blair Andrews led the awards each with two.

Miller won Playoff MVP and Most Popular Player while Andrews took home Stan Zabawa Most Spirited Nelson Leafs award and coaches selection honour, donated by Trevor and Theresa Stocks.

Davie won the Bob McIvor Memorial for Leafs Most Valuable Player and took home the top scorer honour.

Nelson earned Most Sportsmanlike and Most Improved Player awards.

Other awards went to Kyle Chernenkoff Best Defenceman; and Aigne McGeady-Bruce winner of the Harold Mayo Memorial award for player exemplifying dedication to both hockey and education.

Saw Weber won the Michael Spring Unsung Player award while Eamonn Miller cpatured the Overwaitea Foods Rookie of the year award.
