Charges now laid in long weekend homicide in Whistler

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has obtained charges against three youth in relation to the stabbing death of 19-year-old Luka Gordic Saturday (May 17).

Three 17-year-old youths are charged with Manslaughter, in connection with what is believed to have been an altercation between two groups spending the long weekend in Whistler. 

A fourth 18-year-old man is also facing charges.

“This was a situation where a group of young people who knew each other had a dispute which turned deadly,” said Sgt. Stephanie Ashton, Media Relations Officer for IHIT.

“There are some witnesses who have yet to speak with investigators about the death of Luka Gordic, we ask that those people come forward now and tell us what they know,”  says Ashton.

The Accused in this matter appeared in court in North Vancouver Monday (May 19).

RCMP continue to investigate two stabbings in Whistler

RCMP are investigating a stabbing in Whistler during May long weekend.

The incident was reported to RCMP just prior to midnight on Saturday (May 17) on Whistler Way.

“Officers attended to the scene and located the 19-year-old victim, who suffered multiple stab wounds,” said Sergeant Rob Knapton, Operations NCO for Whistler RCMP.

RCMP said the victim was taken to the local clinic then transported to Vancouver for medical treatment.

Whistler RCMP are continuing to investigate this incident.

“At this time there is nothing to indicate that this incident was related to the incident on Saturday night,” said Sgt. Knapton, noting that this is the second stabbing in Whistler during the May long weekend.

Saturday (May 17) at approximately 12:30 a.m., Whistler RCMP responded to a call of an incident near Main St. RCMP attended to the incident and located a 19-year-old male.

The Burnaby resident was taken to the local clinic with life threatening injuries.

Despite medical efforts he was pronounced dead at the clinic.

Whistler RCMP currently have several suspects in custody stemming from this incident.

The British Columbia Coroners service and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team have been contacted and are responding to this isolated incident.

RCMP are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed any of these events, or has information related to it.
