Nelson Chamber of Commerce recently saluted its local businesses that continue to go the extra mile during its Business Excellence Awards at the Hume Hotel.

The awards go to businesses and business leaders that have achieved excellence in the community through efforts and initiatives.

These winners are businesses that display a sustained responsibility to economic growth as well as a commitment to the community.

Nelson Cares won the Non-Profit Community Service award, edging out Salvation Army, Civic Theatre Society and Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation Auxiliary.

Rising Star Startup-New Business was won by Kokanee Mountain Zipline.

Other nominees were MODA Partners & Academy-Quick Shot Media and Red Light Ramen Restaurant.

Finley’s Bar and Grill edged out Kootenay Bakery Café Cooperative and Oso Negro Coffee to capture the Hospitality-Food and Beverage award.

Baldface Lodge won out over Kaslo Jazz Society and Whitewater Ski Resort to claim the Tourism Excellence Award while Kootenay Co-op won Retail Excellence honour over ROAM.

Manufacturing/Technology went to Nelson Brewing Company while Spearhead Timberworks won Business of the Year.
