The City of Nelson announced that a private Celebration of Life service is planned for Nelson Police Constable Mathieu Nolet on Monday, January 30 at the Nelson Rod and Gun Club beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The City of Nelson media release said that the service is for invited guests only and not open to the general public.

Const. Nolet died last week in Kelowna General Hospital following injuries suffered after being buried in an avalanche while backcountry skiing in the mountains northwest of Kaslo on Monday, January 9.

Const. Nolet was skiing with colleague Const. Wade Tittemore at the time of the avalanche.

Const. Tittemore died at the avalanche scene. First Responders and friends celebrated the life of Const. Tittemore in a ceremony held recently at the Capitol Theatre in Nelson.

“To honour his memory, Mathieu’s family would like to extend an invitation to Mathieu’s close personal friends and colleagues,” the media release said.

“Please dress in business casual attire and bring a story or favourite memory to share at the reception.”

A reception will follow the ceremony at a private venue.

The Celebration of Life will be live-streamed on the Nelson Police Department’s Facebookpage.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be directed to the established Go Fund Me page or the Nelson Police Foundation.

The Go Fund Me page has generated more than $86,000 in donations.

“Again, we want to thank everyone who has written comments, sent letters and cards, called, sent emails and visited etc., as we work through this difficult time,” the media release said.

Anyone wanting to send condolences to the Tittemore and Nolet families, please email condolences@nelson.ca.
