SD8 Superintendent Jeff Jones has issued a letter regarding a “serious threat” to the safety of Mount Sentinel School students and staff, thus cancelling all grad ceremonies and activities this weekend, and cautioning parents and students to be “extra vigilant” with regard to any grad activities, parties and events where students might congregate this weekend.

This, after an emergency evacuation at 2:45 p.m. Friday, facilitated after consulation with the RCMP, Nelson PD, provincial Violent Threat Risk Assessment experts, and more.

He also said they will be looking at a date in the future to hold celebrations the students so “rightly deserve”.

“I assure you, the nature of the threat warranted the action we have taken,” he added.

That`s all the information we have at this time, but we will provide updates as they become available.
