L.V. Rogers Bombers swept to a 4-0 record during a Junior Girl’s Fieldhockey tournament Saturday in Oliver.

LVR defeated Dr. Knox of Kelowna 5-1, host South Okanagan Hornets 3-0, Maple Ridge 3-2 and Pen Hi Lakers 4-0 to claim top spot in the tournament.

“The team played extremely well with midfielder Marisa Price playing double duty on the back line and in the midfield causing all kinds of trouble for the opposition with her fast running and quick checking,” said Bomber coach Bruce Walgren.

“Newcomers Alba Zalbua, Africa Bajils-Garoz, Ruka Kato and Haruka Sugimoto and Paris Miesner really and provided the team with an extra dimension with some great speed and checking always keeping the opposition off balance.”

Elle Schlegel, with a hat trick, led LVR during the opening game Friday against Dr. Knox.

Zoe Baxter, on nice far post pass from Gioia Valk, and Valk from a penalty stroke, also scored for the Bombers.

Against Oliver, Baxter scored twice to lead LVR with Valk adding a single.

Bomber keeper Nicola Anderson earned the shutout in goal.

Saturday, against the toughest competition of the tournament, Schlegel scored a hat-trick to lead the Bombers to victory.

After the teams played to a 2-2 draw at halftime, Schlegel struck with wonderful reverse stick hit from 14 meters out giving LVR the victory.

LVR competed the sweep as Baxter, with a pair, Erica Potkins and midfielder Ariel Fulgin scored in the win over Pen-Hi of Penticton.

LVR now travels to Chilliwack Friday to compete in a Senior Tournament.
