The L.V. Rogers Bombers capped off a successful campaign on the pitch by capturing the Bronze Medal in the Tier 2 Division at the BC High School AA Field Hockey Championships this past week in Surrey.

The Bombers defeated South Okanagan of Oliver 3-0 to claim the Bronze Medal.

Grade 8 Skyla Short and midfielder Shianne Michalchuck, with a pair, scored for LVR in the medal match.

Keepers Rylee Zondervan and Johanna Brochhagen shared the duties in goal to earn the shutout.

“I am very proud of the ladies this year,” said coach Bruce Walgren.

“Everyone played very hard and bounced back after the disappointment in the semi-final.”

LVR lost 2-1 in the semi-final to St. Thomas Aquinas of North Vancouver.

Walgren said the winning goal should not have been allowed as the Bombers claim the St. Thomas Aquinas player used the back of stick to score the marker, which is clearly not allowed in Field Hockey.

“As the umpire looked on as the Bomber defense protested he said, "she player barely touched the ball,” Walgren said.

Pressing for the equalizer, LVR’s Hanna Quinn was tripped going for a rebound in the penalty area by the keeper with no call.

“A tough loss and hard to accept after seeing two missed calls,” said Walgren.

LVR opened the tournament losing 3-0 to Windsor of North Vancouver and 3-0 to the tournament's top ranked team, Crofton House of Vancouver.

"Sure it was a loss but for the Lady Bombers it was a huge victory keeping the score low and respectable," Walgren said about the Crofton House contest.

The Bombers bounced back in the third game of the round robin to rout North Delta 5-0 on goals by Hanna Quinn and Michalchuck with two each and a single from Paige Meisner.

LVR the blasted Southridge of Surrey 6-0.

Quinn scored a hat-trick while Michalchuck added a pair and Zoe Baxter score a single.

Senior keeper Rylee Zondervan recorded both shutouts.

The 2-2 record put LVR into the Tier 2 Division Playoffs.

The tournament was the final games for six graduating LVR Bomber seniors as Julia Burkart, Heather Potkins, Hanna Quinn, Shianne Michalchuck, Ashley Hall and Paige Meisner said good bye to the sport of Field Hockey.
