Luke Mori scored in extra time to lift the L.V. Rogers Bombers to a 3-2 victory over Surrey’s Enver Creek in the final of the Halloween Classic High School Boy’s Soccer Tournament Saturday in Summerland.

Mori’s goal was not from the ordinary column as the Bomber senior used some of his creative magic to spark the Bombers to victory.

“(Luke) drilled a low shot that rebounded off the post and came out only to hit their keeper and go into the net,” said Bomber assistant coach Chris Richards, holding down the sidelines for skipper Keith Williams who was unable to make the trip.

“From there it was just a matter of containing as much pressure as we could for the last five minutes,” Richards added. “We soaked up that pressure and our keeper (Andrew Woodward) did not even get tested.”

LVR opened the tournament Friday by stopping Kelowna Secondary Owls 3-0. Mori, Erik Norberg and Sean Hickson scored first-half markers as the Bombers jumped all over the Okanagan side.

The second half was a completely different story as the Owls pushed to try to get back into the game.

LVR then shutout St Ann’s of Kamloops 2-0. Mori and Norberg scored for LVR.

The Bombers then advanced to the final with a heart-stopping shootout victory over Guilford Park of Surrey. Despite owning most of the game, it was Guilford Park opening the scoring in the second half.

The Lower Mainland squad kept the Bombers off the scoreboard until with only seconds left in the game Norberg scored to send the contest into shootout. In dot-shots, Woodward was outstanding for LVR, stopping four of six shots to preserve the win.

The victory should rejuvenate the Bomber players after the squad finished out of the medals during a tournament earlier this season in Chilliwack.

The Bombers are preparing to meet Mt Baker Wild of Cranbrook in the Kootenay High School Boy’s Soccer Championships later this month in the East Kootenay City.

The winner represents the zone at the B.C. High School AAA Boy’s Championships November 25-27 at the Burnaby Lake Sport Complex.
