Bombers host Kootenay Classic 2020

The L.V. Rogers Bombers kick open the Hangar doors to play host to the Kootenay Classic 2020 High School Boys Basketball Tournament Friday and Saturday.

The Bombers open the tournament against Prince Charles of Creston at 12:45 p.m. before five other teams, Mount Baker Wild of Cranbrook, Mount Sentinel Wildcats, Fernie Falcons, South Okanagan Hornets of Oliver and David Thompson Lakers conclude the preliminary round Friday.

Games continue at 2:30 p.m., 4:15 p.m. and 6 p.m.

“This will be a highly contested tournament with teams coming from all over the Kootenays and Okanagan,” said Bomber coach Ryan McKinnon.

“We have a great mix of teams from Provincially Ranked A Fernie, AAAA power Mt. Baker and a sharpshooting squad from Oliver,” McKinnon added.

The Bombers are 6-6 on the season after dropping a heartbreaking overtime decision last week to J. Lloyd Crowe of Trail.

The Bombers led throughout the contest before the Hawks staged a late-game rally.

The Bombers 6-5 in tournament competition after competing in events in Oliver and Mount Sentinel before winning the J. Lloyd Crowe tournament earlier this month.

Action continues Friday afternoon with games at 6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.

The tournament concludes Saturday with the Consolation Final at 3:30 p.m. and the final at 5:15 p.m.
