Bombers finish 11th in Chilliwack

Erik Norberg scored his third goal in five games to power the L.V. Rogers Bombers to a 4-1 decision over Abby International in consolation action at the Best of the Best High School Boy’s Soccer Tournament Friday in Chilliwack.
Mitch Melanson, Simon Sheppard and defender Kevin Lewis also scored for the LVR, which finished 11th overall in the 16-team tournament.
The Bombers were dropped to the third tier of the tournament after losing in shootout tiebreaker.
In the playoff round LVR dropped a 2-1 decision to Gilford Park of Surrey. Norberg scored the only marker for LVR from the penalty spot.
The Bombers played the final two games Friday missing a few key players to injury.
LVR lost the Luke Mori, Trace Cook and Norberg along with defender Sean Hickson during the final round robin contest, a 3-1 loss to North Vancouver Handsworth Royals.
LVR was leading 1-0 with the roof fell in on the Kootenay reps.
 “All those players bowed out leaving us to scramble positions,” said Bomber head coach Keith Williams.
LVR opened with a 3-1 victory over Valleyview of Kamloops.
Lewis, Norberg and Mori scored for the Bombers.
The Bombers then ran into a red-hot goalkeeper, playing to a scoreless draw against G.W. Graham of Chilliwack.
LVR concludes the round robin with a 1-1-1 record.
Other teams in the tournament are from Northern B.C., the Fraser Valley, Okanagan and Vancouver regions.
