L.V. Rogers continued its march toward the post season after the Bombers took home top spot at the recent Mount Baker High School Boy’s Soccer Tournament in Cranbrook.

The Bombers cruised to the title by stopping a team from Kalispell, Montana, 5-1 in the final.

Keegan Carmichael, Max Spielman and Moss Caney with a pair scored for the Bombers. The other marker was an own goal by Kalispell that came seconds before halftime, which snapped a 1-1 tie.

“(This) was a fairly big win for us, seeing as the only other tournament we’ve won since the 2017-18 season was Nakusp last year,” said Bomber coach Caleb Morton.

LVR opened with wins over Sparwood, 9-0, Stanley Humphries of Castlegar, 3-1 and Grand Forks Wolves, 1-0. Milo Klein scored the only goal against the Wolves in a game that sent the Bombers into the final.

Other goal scorers for LVR were Fynn Keywood, Norman Poole, Levi Taylor, Adam Kuch and Dylan Moyens.

The Bombers will host a playday Monday (October 22) at the Lakeside Pitch. Junior and Senior teams from Vernon, Cranbrook and Castlegar are expected to attend.

The tournament, with teams playing 35 minute halves, begins at 10 a.m. with LVR Juniors meeting Stanley Humphries. The tourney comes on the eve of the Kootenay High School AA Zones set for October 27 in Kimberley.

Host Selkirk Storm, Stanley Humphries, Grand Forks and Prince Charles of Creston join the Bombers in the five-team tourney to determine the Kootenay rep at the BC High School AA Boy’s Soccer Championships. The provincial tournament is set for November 19th-21st in Burnaby.
