The L.V. Rogers Bombers picked the wrong time to have the offence dry up.

The Bombers failed two scored during two games Saturday to finish eighth overall at the B.C. High School AA Girl’s Fieldhockey Championships in Oliver.

The final placing is one of the best finishes for a Bomber team in recent history.

LVR lost 1-0 on a penalty stroke to Rockridge of West Vancouver before concluding the championships with a 1-0 setback to G.W. Graham of Chilliwack in sudden death overtime.

“We could not score today,” lamented Bomber coach Val Gibson, who could be coaching her last high school field hockey game.

“It was a great tournament overall,” Gibson added. “The Grads all played with passion and the whole team gave their all.”

The Bombers advanced to the provincial tournament by getting past Stanley Humphries Rockers in the West Kootenay AA Girl’s Fieldhockey Championship.

LVR then had a great start to the tournament Friday, posting a win over Rockridge and playing to a scoreless tie against provincial power Crofton House of Vancouver.

Despite defeating Glenlyon Norfolk of Victoria 1-0 in the final round robin contest Friday morning, the Bombers finished second in round robin play, then lost 2-0 to St. Michaels of Victoria.
