The L.V. Rogers Bombers play for ninth spot after edging Maple Ridge Ramblers 1-0 in consolation round play Tuesday at the B.C. High School AA Boy’s Soccer Championships in Burnaby.

Danny Rodman scored the lone goal in a game the Bombers dominated from start to finish.

“The LVR team finally showed up playing the game with some great soccer and totally dominating from start to finish,” said coach Dave Spendlove.

The Bombers opened the tournament losing 4-0 to West Van’s Sentinel.

LVR started slow and could rally against the Lower Mainland squad.

The result left LVR tied for third with Aldergrove in pool play. Both teams finished the preliminary round with a 0-2-1 record.

The tie was broken using shootout.

LVR players calmly stepped up to score all five penalty shots. That left it up to goalkeeper Andrew Woodward, who came through for the team by stopping one Aldergrove shooter for the win.

The Bombers now meet Gulf Islands in the consolation round game for ninth spot at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Kelowna’s Okanagan Mission plays Archbishop Carney of Coquitlam for the gold medal.
