A handful of Neptunes swimmers qualified for finals at the BC Summer Swim Association Championships this past weekend in Surrey.

Lachlan Bibby-Fox led the charge, finishing just out of the medals in fourth in 50-meter Breaststroke. Bibby-Fox followed that result with an eighth overall performance in Individual Medley

Other results included:

  • Madeline Holitzki finished 13th in 200IM, 10th in 100 fly, 13th in 50 fly, and 8th in 100breast.
  • Laurel Nixon finished 15th in 100fly and 16th in 100free.

In total, ten Neptunes qualified for the BC Championships — Keira Badry and Marshall Scanlone in Division one; Lachlan Bibby-Fox and Kallie Badry in Division three; Ella Chouinard in Division four; Laurel Nixon and Madeline Holitzki in Division five; Fabienne VanDerBerg and Elissa Centrone in Division six; and head coach Jacob Verhesen in Division eight.

In team standings, the Kootenay Region finished seventh overall in the province.

Neptunes swimmers qualified for provincials after finishing tied for first overall with Kimberley at the Kootenay Regionals in Trail.

Nelson won 53 medals ‑ 17 gold, 17 silver and 19 bronze.

The Neptunes were paced by the record-setting performance of Madeline Holitzki, Ella Chouinard, Laurel Nixon and Jaylen Rushton, who set a new mark in the Division 5 regional 4 X 50 freestyle relay event.

Neptune head coach Jacob Verhesen said the swimmers will take a few weeks off before resuming twice a week winter maintenance program beginning in October at the NDCC pool.

The off-season workout prepares swimmers for the 2019 campaign, which begins May 1. For more information, check out the Neptunes website.
