BC Conservation investigate wildlife hazing incident on Kootenay Lake

Nelson Police said in a media release Saturday, that BC Conservation officers continue to investigate a wildlife hazing incident on Kootenay Lake during the late afternoon.
Saturday at approximately 5:54 p.m., Nelson Police received a request from BC Conservation staff for assistance in a report of two boats observed harassing geese on the water on the west side of Nelson.
Nelson Police said witness accounts reported the boats were observed to be circling the geese, preventing them from flying as well as attempting to run the geese over.
“Upon police arrival, members observed one of the boats attempting to run over geese while on the water,” Nelson Police media release said.
“In addition, they noted one of the boats was observed to dock and an associated residence was identified.”
Nelson Police said the joint services boat, Marine 1, was deployed with police and Nelson Fire Rescue staff who were able to intercept the second boat.
Nelson Police said BC Conservation staff attended the area and assumed the investigation once all parties were identified.
Police would like to remind boaters to avoid intentionally hazing wildlife while on
waterways or they could face potential enforcement through the BC Wildlife Act.
