BC Ambulance Paramedics plan 'shout out' Thursday in support of frontline healthcare workers

There could be a little more emotion Thursday evening during the 7 p.m. salute to the frontline healthcare workers in Nelson.
BC Ambulance Paramedics are planning to join the shout out to Kootenay Lake Hospital workers as well as Mountain Lakes Seniors and Lakeview Village, to show support and solidarity during this trying time as the world deals with COVID-19 pandemic.
Paramedics are asking anyone wanting to be involved in the salute to meet at the RCMP detachment Thursday, April 2, 2020 at 6:50 p.m.
The convoy will trek first to Kootenay Lake Hospital before parading to other facilities with lights flashing while driving in convoy.
“If nothing else, this is just a shout out to all the emergency services, those deemed essential services, basically everyone working hard during this time to ensure life continues as normal as possible and that the people of our communities remain safe and well taken care of in every way,” the Facebook post said.
“(Thursday) night several of us want to come together to show our appreciate and support and most of all solidarity during this crazy time.
“We hope people will join us from their doorsteps or windows at home.”
Citizens of Nelson have been rallying at 7 p.m. nightly applauding, cheering, yelling and bang pots from sidewalks, balconies or front lawns in a salute to the work being done by frontline healthcare workers.
The movement began in Italy, with Italians using music and balcony salutes for shift change during the start of the pandemic.
The nightly ritual has also been picked up by those self-isolating across the world as well as many cities and municipalities in BC, including Vancouver, Nanaimo, Burnaby, New Westminster, Abbotsford and Langley.
