The Nelson Leafs are slowly, but surely, building toward hosting the 2018 BC Bantam Tier Three Hockey Championships, from March 18th – 22nd at the NDCC Arena.

The Leafs won its second tournament in as many outings, defeating Trail 8-3 to capture the Penticton Minor Hockey Tier Two Bantam Tournament this past weekend in the South Okanagan.

““It’s a super important win,” said Leafs coach Pete Quinn, “it was some high quality hockey. This weekend was a building block for the provincials.”

The Leafs faced off against a handful of very competitive squads, including the Kelowna/West Kelowna Rockets, the St.Albert, AB Raiders, the Prince George Cougars and the Calgary Buffalo Blackhawks.

“The Calgary team had their own trainer, massage table, and chartered a Dash 8 flight from Calgary,” said Quinn, “that’s a little different mindset than our boys. We’re a meat and potatoes team.”

Leafs other tournament win came during their Nelson tournament.

Nelson also has four second place finishes at Penticton, Salmon Arm, Abbotsford and Kelowna.
