For the third consecutive month the Southeast Fire Centre Weather Services is reporting drier than average conditions for the region.

In its monthly weather synopsis for April 2021, the Southeast Fire Centre Weather Services said the total precipitation was a third of normal with measurable precipitation amount half the monthly average.

“(The) total precipitation was close to one-third of normal (34%) and the number of days reporting a measurable amount of precipitation* was half of the monthly average (seven days this month compared to an average of 14),” Southeast Fire Centre Weather Services said.

The Southeast Fire Centre Weather Services said the reason was due to a series of relatively dry Pacific frontal systems brought generally minor amounts of precipitation but frequent elevated winds between April 1st and April 12th.

“High pressure building upstream of the area dominated for much of the following ten days,” Southeast Fire Centre Weather Services said.

“Dry and unseasonably warm conditions were seen during much of this 10-day period, with the warmest temperature of the month (25.5 degrees) on April 17th preceding a cold front that approached from the northeast on April 18th bringing strong gusty winds.”

The Southeast Fire Centre Weather Services said two daily temperature records were broken:

  • one daily maximum on the 16th (+22.9 degrees)
  • one daily minimum on the 11th (-5.3)

Southeast Fire Centre Weather Services said the mean monthly temperature was 0.7 degrees above average.

Environment Canada said on its website the forecast for the region is for unsettled weather with the highs in the low 20s.
