Mike Allan of Nelson edged out Joel Casey of Vernon 3-1 to capture the Men’s A Title at the No-Frills Tournament Sunday at the Nelson Squash Club.

The tournament attracted almost 40 players for the two-day event from Vernon, Cranbrook, Trail, Castlegar, Revelstoke and host Nelson.

Darwin Horning of Nelson won the A-Consolation title.

Paul Lamoureux defeated Darren Hedstrom, both of Nelson, to claim the Men’s B-Plus crown while Steve Limbert of Trail defeated Keira Zaslove of Nelson in the Men’s B.

Lindsay Hewson defeated Nelson clubmate Anne Bokser-Wislow to win the Ladies C event while Abby Napora got past Sophie Dorrius of Revelstoke to win the Ladies D.

Kevin Limbert of Trail, Poul Henriksen of Nelson, Cathy Heyland of Nelson and Carrie Snaychuk of Cranbrook won consolation trophies in the Men’s B-plus, Men’s B, Ladies C and Ladies D, respectively.

The Nelson Squash Club is making a splash back into the Heritage City Sports community.

After having its bid to take over the Civic Theatre squashed, and an opportunity to join forces with the Nelson Curling Club defeated by the curling membership, the movers and shakers in the squash community decided to build on what they have at the current facility.

The club has approximately 70 members with more than 30 joining in the past few months.

The club is hosting a membership drive for more players with a offer of $150 for anyone joining before September 15, 2015.

A membership comes with a key to the facility, online court booking and unlimited play.

New facility includes a lounge and our two brand new courts –  making four in total  to be ready by September 15.

Wednesday is set a side for Men’s league while Monday is Ladies Day.

There is a new mixed league starting Thursdays for all beginners to enjoy.

There are two major tournaments and two annual Pentathlons per year there is plenty to do on and off the courts as a member of the Nelson Squash Club.
