Nelson Police said alert staff at the Nelson Youth Centre may have saved young lad from a possible assault Tuesday evening (December 16).

NPD dispatch received a 9-1-1 call from Youth Centre staff at approximately 7:20 p.m. that two people were attempting to entice a young male into a fight outside the Lake Street facility.

Police arrived to arrest one assailant, who was charged with uttering threats and causing a disturbance.

The adult female is being sought by the Nelson Police to face similar charges.

The incident was the result of an apparent small debt.

Intoxicated man facing charges after punching stranger

A person is recovering from a few punches to the head from an intoxicated man during an incident late Wednesday evening in the 700 Block of Nelson Avenue.

At approximately 11 p.m. (December 17) a male was approach by an obviously intoxicated male who was shouting at him.  The victim tried to ignore the intoxicated person and go on his way but the male continued to approach him so he called 911.

The 35-year-old man then punched the victim multiple times in the head while he was on the phone to police. Nelson Police members arrived and took the male into custody.

The bizarre behaviour is clearly an indication the man was under the influence of alcohol and most likely street drugs.

The man was held in police cells until sober and charged with assault. He will appear in court in Nelson in March to answer to those charges and remains bound by numerous conditions until that time.
