Kootenay Pride is gearing up for the 24th Annual Pride celebration coming up at the end of the month.

Over the years, this celebration has grown to include community events all week long culminating in the Pride Parade on Sunday, September 1st on Baker Street.

This year we kick off the week by raising the Pride and Trans flags in front of City Hall on Monday, Aug 26th at 11 a.m.

Some of the other events include: a movie screening at St Saviour’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral, Sex Toy Bingo at Mike’s Place Pub in the Hume Hotel, Queer Archive event at the Nelson Public Library, Queer Date Night at Touchstones Nelson Museum of Art and History, Meet and Greet at Finley’s Bar and Grill, plus numerous dance parties including live disco on Sunday night at Bloom Nightclub with Alpine Conspiracy’s CD release party.

Returning again this year is the queer-friendly Match Maker Radio show on Kootenay Co-op Radio. A small group of volunteers come together every year to make these celebrations happen and every year we strive to make events that both celebrate, connect, and educate.

Everyone is invited to help out, we have a coordinating meeting on Tuesday, Aug 20th at 6:30 p.m. at Reo’s Movie Emporium at 601 Front Street.

For more information on any of these events, please stay tuned to Kootenay Pride on Facebook and Instagram.
