Missing boater on Shuswap Lake found by RCMP dive team

Monday, the body of anAlberta boater who went missing over the weekend was recovered from Shuswap Lake Monday morning.

The recovery was made by Sicamous RCMP with assistance from the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team attended the scene and successfully recovered the body of the missing 51-year-old Calgary man.

Police received a call at 8:38 a.m. Sunday (August 17) of a marine incident on Shuswap Lake at Hungry Cove.

The preliminary investigation suggested that a 45-foot vessel had crashed at around 9:30 p.m. the night before and the boat operator, a 51-year-old Calgary man, was missing and presumed drowned.

A second man was below decks when the crash occurred and was later safely recovered with two dogs from the crippled vessel. He was transported to the Kelowna General Hospital for treatment and remains in their care.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

RCMP search for man after boat crash on Shuswap Lake

The Sicamous RCMP continue to assist the BC Coroners Service in the investigation.

Sicamous RCMP are searching for a male after a serious boat crash.

Sicamous RCMP, with the assistance the BC RCMP Underwater Recovery Team (URT), Air Services and Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue are currently searching for a male missing from a serious boat crash in Cinnemousan Narrows.

Early Sunday morning (August 17) RCMP were called and responded to incident at Shuswap Lake at Hungry Cove.

Preliminary information determined a lone boat had crashed late the night before, August 16 at approximately 9:30 p.m.

One male was able to seek assistance from passing house boaters in the morning. He was transported to hospital with various serious injuries.

The boater’s two dogs were also safely recovered, however a 51-year-old male from Alberta remains missing at this time.

The crashed boat, described as a 45 foot vessel, has been seized and secured and the investigation into the cause of incident along with the search for the missing male continues.
