A longboarder is dead after colliding with a vehicle Sunday night in Vernon.

RCMP said at about 11:10 p.m. (July 13), the longboarder, thought by police to be in his teens was hit by a vehicle in the area of 39 Street and Okanagan Avenue.

Police said it was dark at the time of the accident and the driver of the vehicle didn’t see the person until it was too late.

B.C. Ambulance Service and the Vernon Fire Department were called and provided CPR, but the young man died of his injuries later at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

The vehicle was towed and will get a mechanical inspection.

RCMP say alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor in the accident.
