Counterfeit US money circulating in Whistler

The Whistler RCMP would like to warn the public and businesses to be on
the lookout for counterfeit US $100 bills that have recently appeared in the community.

Since December 8 the Whistler RCMP Detachment has received four complaints from local businesses of attempts to use the bills.

“When bogus bills are circulated through the community it has a direct impact on the local economy,” says Sgt Rob Knapton, Whistler RCMP.

“If a person successfully uses counterfeit money it represents a real economic loss to businesses which impacts their bottom line. We urge all local business to carefully check the authenticity of any US $100 bills that people may try to pay with before you accept them.”

As part of the investigation police are looking to identify a person of interest. The man is described as:

●    Approximately 5’ 8” tall
●    Heavy set build
●    Dark hair
●    Olive skin
●    Speaks with an American accent
