The Nelson and District Arts Council, Wood Gundy and Hidden Creek Arts Centre are proud to name Nelson artist, Kelly Shpeley as the 2017 Wood Gundy Hidden Creek Resident Artist. Shpeley will have one week in August to create, all expenses paid, at Hidden Creek Arts Centre at Grohman Narrows.

The selection committee was charged with choosing an artist based off of samples of their work, artist statements and biographies. To say that Shpeley’s surrealist pieces are breathtaking would be an understatement. Her work has been shown throughout North America and Europe and the Arts Council is excited to support her in her next project.

Shpeley is just as excited claiming: “I am honoured to be chosen for this artist residency at Hidden Creek, It is such a great opportunity! I am looking forward to working in tandem with the NDAC to bring a fresh creative angle to my community. I am so grateful for the trust and respect folks have given me in terms of my creative endeavours, and I feel quite positive and supported as I prepare for this next exhibition. It is great that the artistic community has such strong advocacy in Nelson. I am so thankful and heartened.”

This is the second year that the Nelson and District Arts Council has offered the retreat. Applications are made available in January each year and artists that reside in Nelson, Areas E and F are encouraged to apply. For more information on this and other cultural opportunities go to www.ndac.ca.
