Transit rider don’t forget to thank your driver as West Kootenay Transit celebrates International Transit Driver Appreciation Day Friday (March 16).

While March 18th is the actua International Transit Driver Appreciation Day, Friday is being used for riders to recognize the professionals who safely and reliably get people where they need to go every day.

“BC Transit drivers keep our communities moving and their work plays a big part in making British Columbia a good place for people to live,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Claire Trevena in a media release.

“I recently had a chance to learn about ‘a day in the life’ of a transit driver—as well as getting to drive a bus—and I have a deep appreciation for the skills and professionalism involved in this demanding job. So on this day, a big thanks to all the hardworking drivers out there.”

In honour of our over 1,350 transit operators across British Columbia, BC Transit has collected stories from communities across the province and produced a series of short videos showcasing some of the dedicated people behind the wheel.

“At BC Transit, every day is Transit Driver Appreciation Day,” said Manuel Achadinha, President and Chief Executive Officer of BC Transit. “We’re proud of our team of transit operators, whose professionalism and commitment to safety and excellent customer service allow us to deliver efficient and effective service every day to customers across the province.”
