Touchstones Nelson hosts first ever Museum Mash

Touchstones Nelson Museum of Art and History is throwing open its doors on November 19th for a family-oriented, all-ages event—the first ever Museum Mash.
Join staff and volunteers as they host this very special day on Sunday, November 19th.
Combine a visit to Touchstones’ newest exhibitions with hands-on activities, a puppet show and singalong for children, and performances by the Heritage Harmony Barbershop Chorus and Catherine McGrath with the Ukuladies. Rainika PhotoGraphik will be on hand creating tintype photographs in Gallery A alongside the Upstream Benefits exhibition, while guest curators and authors Jane Merks and Peter Bartl bring their Art Deco in Modern Times show to life in Gallery B with an art project and Q&A session.
“There is really something for everyone here,” says Executive Director Astrid Heyerdahl. “It is our mission to be as inclusive, accessible and relevant, and Museum Mash brings all ages
together in an event that really embraces that idea, with free admission and activities that enable everyone to experience art and culture in a fun way.”
Museum Mash is the 2017 version of the Touchstones Family Fair, with the same focus on free activities that bring the museum and galleries to life, but with a broader mandate to include all ages. As well as scheduled activities, the day brings the perfect opportunity to experience the new exhibitions as well as spend time on the permanent museum floor. Visitors can also browse and shop the expanded selection in the Touchstones Shop, which will be decked out for the holiday shopping season.

Admission is free.
“For those who would like to do a sitting with Tekoa Predika in his traveling tintype photo booth, there will be a modest fee to cover his supplies,” says Stephenie Campbell, Touchstones Program Coordinator. “That being said, the end result he creates is such a stunning and unique piece of art, we guarantee it will be well worth every penny. You will literally look like you stepped right out of history into the modern age.”
