Once again the MS Society of Canada BC & Yukon Division is hosting A Taste of Nelson on On September 16, presented by Save-On-Foods at the Prestige Lakeside Resort.

Featuring tasty samplings from local restaurants, wineries, and breweries, the event aims to raise awareness and funds for multiple sclerosis (MS) research, programs, and services.

“Having all these amazing restaurants in one place always makes for a fantastic night,” said Tara McClary, Senior Development Coordinator for the MS Society of Canada. “Nelson has such a diverse culinary scene, and this is a fun way to try a little bit of everything!”

The event will include some favourite restaurants from previous years, such as the Vienna Cafe, West Coast Grill, Baillie-Grohman Winery and Torchlight Brewing Co. The event also welcomes new participants Silver Root Taphouse and The Wood Thief Hideout.

“It is wonderful to have restaurants who support the event year over year,” said McClary. “Their participation is an act of greatness that keeps the community engaged and motivated to make an impact in the lives of people living with MS.

“We are also excited to add new restaurants each year to keep the event fresh and showcase more of the delicious flavours of Nelson.”

Guests will get to sample a wide variety of cuisine and will not leave hungry. Keep your favourite dishes in mind throughout the evening, as guests get to vote for the Best Sweet Taste, Best Savoury Taste, Best Beverage, and Best Presentation, with the winning restaurants being awarded “Fork in Cork” trophies.

If excellent food and drinks are not enough, there is also a chance to pick up some great items through the silent auction, toonie auction, and door prize draws.

“Through fundraising events such as A Taste of Nelson, the MS Society of Canada BC & Yukon Division is able to support innovative research into the cause, treatment and cure of MS,” said McClary.

“We are also able to provide valuable programs and services such as the Volunteer Legal Advocacy Program (VLAP), Equipment Provision Program (EPP), MS Knowledge Network and 1:1 Peer Support Program for people affected by MS in the West Kootenays.”

A Taste of Nelson doors open at 5:00 pm and the event goes until 9 p.m. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, August 27 at 11:00am at Save-On-Foods Nelson, and online at tasteofnelson.ca. Tickets are $50 each or $400 for a table of 8.

The MS Society would like to thank the local sponsors who make this event possible: Nelson Home Hardware Building Centre, Canadian Health Advocates Inc., and Telus. For more information or to donate to the event contact Tara at tara.mcclary@mssociety.ca or 1-800-268- 7582, ext 7254.
