Taghum Hall pivots yet again as board and volunteers work to embrace the spirit of community in difficult times: announcing the Farm Fresh Food drop, a means to connect farmers and food-producers with customers in a safe and delicious way, beginning December 14.
It’s a happy follow-up to the sad decision to cancel the Christmas Market, which was set to run December 12 but could not go ahead due to Covid-19 restrictions.
“We were sorry to cancel the market, but we are excited about this,” says organizer and Taghum hall board member Penelope Stephenson.
“This simple distribution system means local food producers and artisans can reach their customers in a safe, efficient way. We’ll have two drops before Christmas, so folks can purchase local gifts as well as food for the holiday. It’s a big win-win.”
The program is in direct response to COVID‐19, and aims to assist in creating a resilient food‐system, and help people to access healthy, affordable food, as well as create a safe pick-up location for craft items.
All items are ordered and paid for online at participating vendors; customers must register with the Taghum Hall Farm Fresh Food Drop program, and will be required to pay a small, one-time subscription fee.
The program will continue until June.
Farmers and artisans will pre‐package paid‐for items at their own location and drop them off at Taghum Hall. All drop‐off and pick‐up activity will occur outdoors, with mandatory mask-wearing and hand‐sanitizing. Only customers will touch their pre‐bagged items.
Taghum Hall has strictly followed all Public Health safety guidelines thus far, and will continue to monitor and adapt to changing requirements.
This program is community‐minded, connecting farmers and customers, and is run by volunteers.
The project is gentle on the Earth by not contributing to packaging/shipping waste and allows farmers/artisans only one distribution trip to town.
