Storytelling event at the Nelson Library explores lessons in grief and loss

Everyone has experienced grief at some point.
On Thursday, September 14 at 7 p.m a special storytelling event explores how we can live more fully through the lessons of death, grief and loss. The event takes place at the Nelson Public Library, 602 Stanley Street.
Presented by Kalein Centre for Integrated Dialogue, Hospice Care, and Education in partnership with the Library, the evening features three diverse storytellers as part of a weekend “liminal learning lab event” entitled “Who Cares? Evolving the Rich Potential of Compassionate Communities.” More information about the weekend is available at kaleincentre.org. The Library event is open to the public.
Sarah Conover is the author of seven books on world wisdom traditions and spirituality, as well as an educator in public schools and in prisons. Orphaned of parents and grandparents in a tragedy when she was a child, Sarah speaks about the human need to not just get over or even befriend grief, but to treat grief as sacred terrain.
Corky Evans, past Nelson-Creston MLA and now farmer, speaks about how our culture has lost an understanding and acceptance of death, and how the Health Care System has become more of a Death Avoidance System.
And David Scanlan, a former medical and mental health social worker now completing a certificate in “Creative Grief Coaching”, is also an accomplished musician. In addition to a short talk about transforming grief, Dave will perform some songs that deal with grief and loss.
The Kalein Centre’s Liminal Learning Lab coordinator Mike Stolte will moderate the event.
Admission is free, but space is limited.
