The Nelson Chapter of the Council of Canadians is hosting a local update on the NAFTA trade talks with our local Member of Parliament, Wayne Stetski. The event is coming up 7 pm Tuesday, November 14th at the Nelson’s Senior Centre, Local #51 at 717 Vernon St.

“These trade talks are crucial to Canada,” says Sandra Hartline  of the Nelson Chapter.  “If the NAFTA deal is not improved it should be scrapped,” she says. “It has a huge impact on the incomes and well-being of Canadians.  We can ask ourselves if most of us are better off than we were when the deals were signed last century. Most of us are certainly not.”

“We look forward to hearing from our Member of Parliament on his perspective on the talks,” Sandra Hartline says.

The Council of Canadians has long campaigned for fair trade deals for Canada. The Council is a prominent national institution.  It has a network of more than 60 active volunteer chapters that create a powerful voice for social and environmental justice. The Council hold governments accountable and challenges the unbalanced power of corporations, promoting positive social change in Canada and the world.
