Students at South Nelson Elementary have been busy of late, transforming the bank near the Uphill based school into a beautiful mix of native and ornamental plants this April.

The giant dirt slope at South Nelson Elementary was transformed when parents and kids came together to complete phase two of a school-grounds improvement project.

The plants are settling in nicely and should start blooming soon. The new garden area will provide a dynamic environment where students can learn about native plants, pollinator plants, and habitat for birds and other critters.

This phase of the project was made possible by the generous donation of native plants from the Fish & Wildlife Compensation Program, healthy snacks from the Kootenay Co-op, coffee from Oso Negro, and design and project management from SEEDS & Lettuce Lawn & Garden.

The South Nelson PAC provided support and funding.
