A former Kootenay resident is coming back to his roots to launch a book Folly Bistro (Granville Island Publishing), which documents his trials and tribulations of owning a restaurant in Vancouver’s West End.

Bruno Huber, a former Kootenay resident and a former owner of a French bistro in Vancouver’s West End, will be a at the Vienna Cafe on September 12th at 7 p.m.

Huber lived in the Kootenays in the 1970s and 1980s.

Folly Bistro is a hilarious account of his interactions with a cast of characters that included Prima Donna chefs, a staff who would occasionally have affairs with each other, picky health inspectors and an eclectic and fussy clientele from The West End and from around the world.

The book also highlights the day to day financial challenges of operating a restaurant in Vancouver’s pricey West End where balancing the books was a constant struggle.

Huber also wrote a stage play based on the book.
