Selkirk College Students Host Fifth Annual SROAMazing Race in Nelson

It’s a race through Nelson that always has shopper’s heads turning.
The Selkirk College Ski Resort Operations & Management Program is back to host the fifth annual 2016 SROAMazing Race starting at the Nelson District Youth Centre.
SROAMazing Race, set for Saturday, October 17 in beautiful downtown Nelson, is open to all scavenger hunters.
“Costumes are encouraged,” said Ski Resort Operations and Managment
student at Selkirk College in Nelson, Dan Johnston.
“So Gather your wildest group of friends, put on your costumes from failed Halloweens past, and come race, dance and eat your way to victory for prizes from some of the raddest ski and snowboard industry brands.”
The race runs from 1 to 4 p.m.
Racers puruse the streets of Nelson looking for clues to the next station with hopes of securing a host of prizes compliments of Whitewater Ski Resort, Big Red Cats, Planks and many other contributors.
“After participating in last year’s event, we’ve really been able to put together some great elements from that race, as well as put in our own unique spin to make it even better this year,” says the sponsorship team leader Kerr McEwen.
The race gives SROAM students first hand knowlege of the do’s and don’ts of organizing an event as well as raising money and awareness for Avalanche Awareness Beyond the Boundaries Society.
Doors open at 12 p.m. and race starts at 1 p.m. sharp.
Also included in the day is a barbeque, live music, prizing for the winning teams and the best dressed contest.
Registration is accepted in person at Whitewater Ski Resort downtown office or Selkirk’s Tenth Street Campus (820 Tenth Street).
Entry is $20 per four-person team.
