What a great idea — combining food with art.

The Nelson and District Arts Council’s Second Annual Appetite for Art on March 11th was a complete success .

The event is a fundraiser pairing art and food in a gallery style setting.

Appetite for Art showcases Nelson artists and local restaurants and wineries. The pairing of art and food allow for a greater appreciation of both methods of creative expression.

With 80 pieces of original art on display from 25 artists, and six unique local food and wine vendors, the gallery style show was a feast for both the eyes and the palate.

“We were incredibly lucky to have been so supported by the community in our second year” said Sydney Black, Executive Director for the Nelson and District Arts Council.

“It was a great partnership with the West Coast Grill and over $2400 was raised to assist the Arts Council with their mission of supporting local artists. We have already selected our dates for next year and look forward to even more visual and culinary delights next year on March 10th!”

Black said the event is designed to raise money, through ticket sales, for the Nelson and Districts Art Council in support of their annual events such as the Rural Artist Support Weekend and the Dance Educators’ Showcase.

All artwork on display was available for purchase.

Black said as always, the big winners are the artists in Nelson, with the Nelson and Districts Art Council benefitting.

“Events like these are the result of many hours of hard work of volunteers from the Nelson and District Arts Council and West Coast Grill, as well as the participating Artists and Restaurants.”
