Nelsonite Shawn Morris is returning to his roots this weekend to host a Shawn Morris Creative Show at the Hume Hotel Friday, November 4 from 7-10 p.m.

Morris grew up and attended public school in Nelson, enjoying travel, poetry, adventure and photography in between playing soccer.

The 40-something contemporary artist; photographer and writer recently landed one of the premiere events at the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival — State of the Art — during the spring of 2016.

“I have prepared a show that has a good variety of sizes and mediums including 20 16 X 24 prints on Metal,” Morris said.

“I am very fond of big art but the reality is unless I am doing commissioned work, the production costs alone on bigger pieces can be extraordinary.”

Morris, who spends countless hours into his pieces when creating his works, makes art because it’s soothing.

“It provides somewhat of an escape,” he said.

“It helps me to see the world a little differently and put my own tweak on what my minds eye sometimes sees, in a tangible form.”

Morris is excited to be showcasing a variety or new work in the hometown.

“I feel so lucky to come from such an amazing place with such amazing people, both of which continue to influence and inspire me,” he said.

“It has been almost seven years since my last show in Nelson, which coincidently happened to be my first big solo show.”
