Past members of the North Shore Fire Department (NSFD) shared stories about call-outs and practices during a special reunion event last month.

Past NSFD chiefs and volunteers were invited to catch up with each other and reminisce about old times, and to get to know some of the current volunteers. Some members came from as far away as Vancouver, although most still reside in the area. Many alumni now have family members involved with the fire hall.

“We just thought it would be nice to see how some of the old crew were doing, and to give them a chance to come and share some memories with our newer volunteers,” said NSFD Chief Fred Schneider. “It was good to see everybody, and I think everyone was happy to come and catch up.”

The party was spearheaded by the spouses of some past NSFD members. The past Fire Chief from Beasley, Al Craft, the current Fire Chief from Balfour Harrop, Pat Hergott, Acting Regional Deputy Fire Chief Nora Hannon and the Director of Electoral Area F, Tom Newell, were also invited.

Chief Schneider said that the fire hall is always looking for new volunteers to help serve the community. If anyone wants to become involved, visit the RDCK website to learn more and fill out an application form.
